THE COMMISSION PROCESS

Here is some information about how to commission your champion's portrait. I am based in Melbourne, Australia but international commissions are most welcome.

I create your champion’s charcoal portrait from one photo or from a combination of several photos. These are either your favourite photos or ones I have taken while visiting you and your champion animal.

All photos will be returned at your request.

CHOOSING YOUR PHOTOS

When choosing photos for me to work from, please choose one and preferably several that represents pretty much how you want your champion to look like in the final art work. Any photographic problems such as red-eye or unwanted backgrounds can be corrected or discarded for the drawing process. I can also combine different aspects from several photos to create the composition and stance which best shows your champion’s qualities, whether is it the winning ‘best in show’ posture or his sweet and inquisitive nature.

If you would like several animals in one artwork I can combine a composition from several photos.

If you don’t have suitable photos I am very happy to visit you and your champion animal with my camera, any travel costs incurred can be added to the order.

PREVIEWS BEFORE CONFIRMATION OF YOUR ORDER

Before committing to your champion’s charcoal drawing you will be emailed a digital mock up giving you a quick idea of the composition layout and look of the artwork. Once this is approved I will begin drawing your portrait. I will email digital progress pictures throughout the drawing process.

HOW LONG WILL THE DRAWING TAKE?

Usually I like a 4-6 week turn around depending on my schedule. Of course if you have a special date you would like your artwork delivered by, for example a birthday or Christmas, please let me know.

STANDARD PRICE GUIDE

Artworks are done in charcoal on 640gsm 100% cotton paper.

For large artworks charcoal on canvas is available.

Please contact me for a quote.

I am particularly interested in life sized drawings including larger champions like your prized bull or champion stud pig.

DEPOSITS & PAYMENTS

To secure your place in my studio schedule, a 25% deposit is payable once I start the artwork, that is pencil to paper. The balance is due once you have viewed and approved an emailed image of the artwork.

Payment is by PayPal or EFT bank transfer.

Shipping costs are subject to distance and size of the artwork, I will quote the transport costs upon your request.

I hope this has answered your questions about the commissioning process, otherwise please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss your champion animal’s requirements.
